Why Collingwood is the right home for elite summer hockey training

Central Park Arena sits at 85 Paterson Street in the heart of Collingwood — a 90-minute drive from the GTA, 35 minutes from Barrie, and minutes from Wasaga Beach, Blue Mountain, Thornbury, and Stayner. For Georgian Bay-area hockey families, it is the most accessible summer ice in the region.

Summer ice in Ontario is a finite resource. Most arenas pull their ice for cost reasons, leaving rep and AAA players with limited options to maintain mechanics and edge work between June and September. Central Park Arena keeps quality ice in town, and EHS has been running its summer camp programming here since the very beginning.

The town itself is a hockey town. Collingwood Minor Hockey Association serves hundreds of players from U7 through U21 and has produced multiple Junior, OHL, and university-level athletes. Coach Dan has served as a CMHA skills coach for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons, contributing to the organization's move from Rep to AA classification across most teams. Several EHS alumni currently play in Junior C, PJOHL, GOHL, and at OHL prospect levels.

What is the EHS curriculum?

The EHS approach is built on five integrated pillars. Every camp day moves players through all five, progressing daily so the work compounds across the week.

Power Skating

Stride efficiency, edge depth, recovery, and explosive acceleration — executed with pucks, not in isolation.

Edge-Work

Inside, outside, and tight-turn mechanics. Mohawks, pivots, and crossovers built on real game scenarios.

Puck Skills

Stickhandling under pressure, passing accuracy at speed, shooting form, puck protection, and balanced movements.

Elite Drills

Counter-reactive movement work that bakes in agility, creativity, and decision-making under load.

Compete

Heavy 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 small-area games. Players learn how to play without the puck — positioning, angles, support.

Hockey IQ

Coach-led conversations connecting drills to real game situations. Why we drill it, when to apply it, how to read it.

Every section of the curriculum is taught by Coach Dan and a small instructor team — many of them former EHS students who returned as Junior Instructors. We strive for a 4:1 player-to-coach ratio so every player gets real-time corrections, not generic feedback at the end of practice. Read Coach Dan's full bio →

Who are these camps for?

Rep, AA, and AAA players ages U8 through U16 who want measurable improvement in mechanics, edges, and game-applicable skill. We welcome U12+ Local League players who are ready to push their development.

U11 and under LL players are eligible only if they meet the Skating Exception: highly proficient at forward and backward skating, tight turns, pivots, mohawks, and crossovers. Text Coach Dan at 705-607-1299 to confirm fit before registering.

What we don't do: We do not run a daycare on ice. Players are expected to compete, fall, get back up, and accept feedback. The training is intense and intentional. Parents who value pure mechanical improvement over participation-trophy programming consistently send their players back year after year.

Where are the Collingwood hockey camps held?
All Elite Hockey Skills 2026 summer camps are held at Central Park Arena, 85 Paterson Street, Collingwood, Ontario, L9Y 3N3. The arena is a short drive from Wasaga Beach, Blue Mountain, Thornbury, Stayner, and Barrie, making it accessible for hockey families across Georgian Bay.
What is the difference between half-day and full-day hockey camp?
The half-day camp is 3 hours of ice per day (12 total over 4 days) in either AM or PM. The full-day camp combines AM and PM for 6 hours of ice per day (24 total over 4 days). Same curriculum, double the reps. Full-day is best for serious players seeking maximum skill development.
How many hours of ice time do players get?
Half-day campers get 12 hours of on-ice training over 4 days. Full-day Week 1 campers get 24 hours over 4 days. The Famous 5-day Week 2 camp delivers 25 hours over 5 days, including a daily showcase game in the final hour. Every hour is structured progression, not free skate.
What is the player-to-coach ratio?
EHS strives for a 4:1 player-to-coach ratio. Sessions are kept intentionally small to enable real-time mechanical corrections, high-frequency puck touches, and zero standing in line. Coach Dan and our instructor team are on the ice for every drill, not on the bench.
Do I need to be Rep or AAA to attend?
EHS camps are designed for Rep, AA, and AAA caliber players. We welcome U12+ Local League players ready to push their development. U11 and under LL players are eligible only if they have mastered forward and backward skating, tight turns, pivots, mohawks, and crossovers (the Skating Exception). Text Coach Dan at 705-607-1299 to confirm.
What should my player bring to camp?
Bring full hockey equipment and jersey, sharp skates (critical), water bottle, healthy snacks and energy food, and off-ice running shoes and athletic gear. Full-day campers also bring a hearty lunch (Friday pizza is provided at the Famous 5-Day camp). Mouthguards and helmets must meet HC standards.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations 90 or more days before camp receive a full refund minus a $25 admin fee. Cancellations 45 to 90 days prior receive 50% minus the admin fee. Under 45 days is non-refundable as ice and jerseys are already paid for. Full policy available at /refund-policy.
